The Anniversary Edition adds two new civilizations. The Malians of West Africa focus on growing their economy through gold mining, while the Ottomans can use the Great Bombard to smash enemy defenses.
There are also eight new maps and a beta Mod Editor for creating your own maps or missions. That brings the total to ten civilizations and four campaigns, with 35 missions spanning the Dark Ages through the Renaissance. I really enjoy the campaign. It’s packed with content, so I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
Alongside AOE 4, I’ve also shared Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold. Both are legendary RTS classics with remastered versions, so they’re well worth trying.
